Hi everyone
Enjoyed Block as a layday.  Lovely spot. at 1700 we were ready for the launch to go ashore but severe thunderstorms once again hit so we remained on the GYPSY for the duration of the day. Off to onset aft we fuel for 5.50 a gallon, we figured our leg from Cape May to Block was $300. not bad eh for a sailboat. Will let everyone know we are safe upon our arrival.

We left Cape May with left over swells, motored sailed the whole way due to lack of wind, with the
exception of two hours.. Much ship traffic so Harry had to manage the ships most of the eve...Sea fog from 0200 until 1100 and of course more fog as we were sailing off Montauk headed for Block, just as we approached Block Red 2 the wind piped to twenty knots ..we had a full main, doused the staysail and went flying between the reds and greens and anchored with twenty knots of wind... the most wind in the past 35 hours.  we settled in, and once again had to wash the
boat due to the disgusting bugs....We will ponder over the next course of action over a
glass of wine and decide whether we should remain here tomorrow or head north ..
Love,
H&J
Thanks for all the phone calls and checking on us...
see you all soon.

We arrived in the dark, storms astern, red sky off the west.  Anchored .. trip would have been delightful hitting 10.1 knts under sail but the flies were so ferocious .. we are so disgusted by the amount of times we swatted and eliminated that we had lost control of our navigation and our lunch. It was a bitch.. so showers were required after the anchor was set in order to save our sanity and gain control of our bodies and mind!
Talk soon,

Hello everyone,
We left Norfolk on May 14th, our stops were as follows: Passing the James River, York River and on to our first port Deltaville, and the Piankatank River, we anchored in Fishing Bay, Lovely quiet harbor with access to Fishing Bay Yacht Club. A day or two to enjoy the scenery.

Piankatank River past the great Rappahanock River our next port was Sandy Point on the Great Wicomoco River. Quiet Anchorage on the western shore of Virginia on the northern neck of the Bay.

Next,Passing the Great Potomac Headed to the Pawtuxet River where we visited the well known Solomons,MD remained for a few days so weather would pass and to tour the area.  Visited Solomons Island Yacht Club with some cruisers for a beer. Met some folks from Austria, cruising US waters.

Continued on to the Choptank River of the Eastern Shore onto the town of Oxford, Maryland where we anchored on the Tred Avon River to explore Oxford and visited the Tred Avon Yacht Club. Photo

From Tred Avon River we travelled to meet some sailing acquaintances we met in Norfolk and moved up the bay to the famous St. Michaels and anchored in San Domingo Creek, a lovely anchorage, beautiful starry night.

From San Domingo we sailed across the bay to West River, south of Annapolis.  We visited this area as our friends kept their boat there. We stayed for weather a bad nor'easter and then departed north once again.

Passing Annapolis and Baltimore and headed for the Sassafras River, where we anchored for the evening beautiful bluffs and many of them, before heading north to the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal.. we are now sitting pretty in Summit North Marina, approximately 15 miles east on C&D canal again awaiting bad storms to pass ..but in a lovely marina, great hospitality, courtesy car to market, and we can see the canal from our dock

Our journey up the Chesapeake was quite educational...many major rivers and many many rivers and creeks to go visit.  All of them quite interesting. We chose this path of sailing to buy some time .. we want to be back in NE early June so we have some warm weather.  We have a few photos to share.  Our camera has taken a turn for the worst so we will chuck it...so we will not be taking photos from here on out... we also plan to head for some offshore cruising now .. it will be a pleasure not to watch for all those buoys and shoals...
See  you all soon, much love

Hello Everyone. Please forgive us for not writing before today... our lives became a bit hectic over the holidays!!

We left Dec 18th for home, We actually did not arrive back to the GYPSY until Feb 9th.(A much longer stay than expected in Boston) Believe it or not, we just opened our Christmas and Get Well cards today.. mail needs to be ordered from Miami.. so thank you all for those greeting cards.

Some of you know the reason for the long delay back home. Some do not.  So the condensed version .. is that while home .. I was diagnosed with breast cancer... no, not news we wanted to hear after our ordeal with Harry. A decision was made (and with the help of great friends in the world of medicine) that I would "fast track" this situation.. so surgery was performed on January 11th..by a fabulous surgeon, six days aft the results, All went extremely well, as this cancer was
caught in the very early stages, (mammography did not show).. then the game plan was for us to come here and have my radiation.. We now have 2 of 28 treatments behind us.

Harry is doing well, unfortunately, he became the caretaker aft my surgery.. god bless him.. he began carrying the packages as his Surgeon declared he would someday, he is doing well, and on the whole ..we had wonderful care, food, and support from FAMILY and FRIENDS while at home...we are still trying to mend our hearts and souls, we know life will get better.... Harry is back to rehab for a bit longer and we go to the gym. we are enjoying the restaurants here in Norfolk, weather could improve as we have not put the boat cushions back out in the cockpit yet, or turned off the heaters.... My mom fell 2/10, one day after our arrival, she has been admitted to a nursing home and is progressing slowly. very sad for the family.

We pray that all the bad stuff stops and we pray for all of you... Lenten season is here.. so we have lots of occasions to go to church. Good news, booked a cruise Dec 13th to celebrate Harry's recovery, Oncologist finally agreed to let me take the break between treatments to go.. so there is a silver lining in each cloud.

Lots of Love and many thanks for the Christmas cards and get well cards, we miss you all.
Love Harry and June

We enjoyed some waypoints as Port Jefferson, Northport (visit Harry's cousins), and now Port Washington since last night. We are one town out from NYC and a 35 min train to Penn Station. Will stay 2-3 days to take in The City, then motor thru to lower New York Bay at Sandy Hook awaiting weather for 2 day offshore run to Norfolk.

Sun 24 Sep
We are still in Empire State. We, esp. June, fell in love with Essex. CT river peaceful and fresh water for deck & hull wash down! Dinner @ the Griz, Chandlery & laundry at the docks...what could be better! Enough rest; after 2 lay days, we made the long run to the next good anchorage: Port Jefferson, NY. Truly New York; great bars, restaurants, real Italian pizza joints. We are leaving tomorrow after this strong cold front passes. Will stop at another LI port or City Island before running thru East River between Manhattan, Queens & Brooklyn for the overnight run offshore to Cape May.

17 Sept
Sunday, we finally left Newport after repairs; fuel & water at Goat Island, and took a calm refuge at Block Is. Monday-Stonington, Tues-Essex; here we will take a lay day while a rainy front passes, then on to New York in these small day hops. We will not go offshore until the NY to Norfolk run, NJ having no inside option.
