Greater Boston Rumble Racing Series

THE #1 RATED RACES OF THE SUMMER

Everyone wants more boats on the line! To solve that, three Wednesday nights per season, Constitution Yacht Club, Hingham Bay Racing, and Cottage Park Yacht Club / Boston Harbor Handicap Racing organize the Greater Boston Rumble Series. On these nights, the combined fleets come together to compete in action packed buoy racing. Each club hosts their own Rumble to show the other clubs why their home chop is best. Rumble Races typically see upwards of 50 boats competing and are consistently rated as the favorite races of the summer. Details below- don’t miss them!

SI Amendment #1

SI is updated to correct error.

The Finish read: "Any yacht finishing after sunset shall hail the RC on VHF channel 68 as they approach the finish line declaring their yacht name, sail number, class and any known yachts finishing immediately ahead or behind."

Corrected to "channel 69"  to stay consistent with rest of SIs

SI Amendment #2

SI is updated to include additional marks of the course

Course previously read: "GBRS - Rumble I, as determined by RC, will be made with marks from the MBSA Standard Rounding Mark List C: Greater Boston & Hingham Harbor, attached to these GSI’s - Please note “Additional Restrictions” at the bottom of List C."

Course has been updated to: "GBRS - Rumble I, as determined by RC, will be made with marks from the MBSA Standard Rounding Mark List C: Greater Boston & Hingham Harbor (Please note “Additional Restrictions” at the bottom of List C) and BHHR-CPYC Race Marks. A comprehensive list of these marks which includes decriptions and lat/long, including a visual map to aide racers is available here

SI Amendment #3

SI is updated to allow RC more discretion and flexibility when starting classes

The Start previously read: "Class starts may be combined at the discretion of the RC based on yachts participating. Starts will be in accordance with RRS 26 and in ‘reverse’ order (i.e., the slowest class will start first and fastest will start last).  RC will be using rolling starts – The warning signal for each succeeding class shall be the starting signal for the subsequent class:  The below times serve as examples and may be altered by the RC based on conditions, number of participants and multiple class starts being combined.

The Start has been updated to:

"Class starts may be combined at the discretion of the RC based on yachts participating.

Starts will be in accordance with RRS 26 and in ‘reverse’ order (i.e., the slowest class will start first and fastest will start last).

RC may use rolling starts (The warning signal for each succeeding class shall be the starting signal for the subsequent class).

A class with over 15 vessels may be broken into multiple starts at the discretion of the RC based on course conditions to prioritze safety.

The starting line will be between the blue Race Committee flag on the committee boat on the starboard end and the course side of the port end of the inflatable white tetrahedron.

The RC may use an inflatable orange tetrahedron placed between the committee boat and the inflatable white tetrahedron to shorten the starting line for some classes. In this case the starting line will be between the blue Race Committee flag on the committee boat on the starboard end and the course side of the port end of the inflatable orange tetrahedron.

When both starting marks are present on the line, prior to the first warning of each class, the RC shall announce via VHF Ch 69 which color inflatable tetrahedron represents the port end of the starting line for that class.

In the event the inflatable orange tetrahedron remains on the start line when the RC announces the inflatable white tetrahedron represents the port end of the starting line, boats in that class shall honor the orange tetrahedon as a mid-line starting mark. RRS 31 applies.

Boats whose class warning signal has not been made shall stay clear of the starting area during the starting sequence for other races.”

Pre-Race Notice: Class B Update

As of 1500, there are 22 boats registered for Class B. Given the current conditions, at this time the RC & Fleet Captain have made the decision to start all 22 boats at the same time. The RC will set up a starting line large enough to safely accommodate all boats in the class at once; this will ensure fairness and maintain continuity with MBSA Class Splits for the MBSA championship.

However, if conditions change as the start of the race approaches, the RC & Fleet Captain reserve the right to split Class B into the following 2 starting groups to provide more room and ensure everyone's safety.
